In 2 Thessalonians 2:1–12, Paul writes to a church troubled by confusion about the return of Christ. His response is not to fuel speculation or fear, but to anchor them again in what is true: Jesus is coming back, God remains sovereign, and the victory of Christ is certain.

Yet the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Its temptation is as old as Eden: to reject God’s authority and place ourselves on the throne to determine truth, morality and the direction of our lives for ourselves. Often, that drift does not happen all at once, but through small compromises over a lifetime.

As we wait for Christ, we are called to remain vigilant, submit ourselves to God, and hold fast to the truth of the gospel. Our hope is not in our ability to figure out every detail of the end times or to keep ourselves secure. Our hope is in Jesus Christ, the One who reigns, the One who keeps us, and the One who is coming again.
